arrington, 2014 In the orchard at Wimpole Hall, this small lift & force pump includes an odd bit of plumbing, in the form of a small bore pipe fitted with what looks like a gas tap. Our best guess is that it's intended as a method of allowing the water to drain out of the barrel as an anti-frost device (but no other Lee Howl pump yet found has anything like it). Thanks to John Hurst for the photos, who was told that the pump had been fully refurbished a couple of years ago by an engineer - and that might well explain the odd device.

Markings: Flag and an indecipherable roundel.

Manufacturer: Lee Howl.
