An interesting cast iron village pump at Llanuwchllyn, Gwynedd, built by public subscription and commemorating the birth of a new son to the Williams-Wynn family. There's an almost identical pump to this in Stanton-by-Dale, Derbs, although it's in rather better condition. Photos by Roger Howse - thanks, Rog. The pump carries an inscription: | |
COFEB Y CYHOEDD AM ENEDIGAETH ETIFEDD WYNNSTAY IONAWR 25 1891 |
Translation: MEMORIAL TO THE PUBLIC ON THE BIRTH OF ETIFEDD WYNNSTAY JANUARY 25 1891 |

Almost
buried in a private garden at Y Felinheli, Gwynedd. Photos by Roger Howse -
thanks, Rog. The close-up on the right shows a Patent Office Registered Design
Diamond, and each corner of the diamond carries a code letter or number,
although it's hard to make out the detail on the casting. See
if you can work it out. Markings: "C. Winn & Co., Birmingham" and "1461". Manufacturer: Unk. |
