Two
co-located pumps at Dingley, Northants. Photos supplied by John Hurst - thanks,
John. The larger, cast iron-boxed pump, has quite an ornate spout but also has a panel missing and its
operating rod is protruding. Does this suggest an abandoned attempt at
renovation at some time? Markings: None visible on the larger pump. Lion on the smaller one. Manufacturer: Larger pump - Unk. Smaller pump - Joseph Evans. |

If the innards of this pump at Fotheringhay, Northants, are really dated ca 1640, this makes it one of the oldest in the country. Photos supplied by John Hurst and Pete Workman - thanks, both. There's a nearby brass plaque carrying the following inscription: | ![]() |
| FOTHERINGHAY VILLAGE PUMP CIRCA 1640 RESTORED IN 2002 QUEEN ELIZABETH II GOLDEN JUBILEE FUNDED BY E.B. (NORTHAMPTONSHIRE) LTD. L.T.C.S. E.N.C. JUBILEE GRANT SCHEME AND PRIVATE DONATIONS |

The restoration of the
pump in Yelvertoft, Northants, involved the preservation of its original ~100
year old solid oak pump top, and the cast iron
spout seems to be original too. There's an inscription on the metal cap,
which simply records the parish council's renovation. Photographs supplied by
Mike Faherty - thanks, Mike. Markings: None. Manufacturer: Unk. |
