Under a smart shelter at West Wratting, Cambs, erected in 1903 as a memorial to Queen Victoria. The pump has a most unusual mechanism, only seen in two other pumps so far - Clavering and Elmdon, Essex - and which takes a bit of fathoming out. Another unusual pump - on a farm on the road to Six Mile Bottom - which is almost identical to one in Kimpton, Hants. Photos by John Hurst - thanks, John. Markings: "GODWIN" on the flywheel counterweight. A tag on the top of the pump reads "Pump No 6153, Type X, GPH [blank] Head [blank]". Manufacturer: Godwin of Quenington, Glos.
