Wigton Pumps (click on photographs to bring up bigger/better versions).

wigton This impressive pump at Wigton, Cumbs, features a substantial bucket stand. Photographs supplied by John Hurst - thanks, John. It and the nearby cast iron gas lamp were removed from their original location in the Market Place as long ago as 1872 and kept in storage until their re-instatement in 1924. The pump used to carry a plaque which read "Ye Olde Wigton Pump Re-erected 1924", but unfortunately this is now lost. It turns out that both the pump and the gas lamp have a literary connection.

Markings: None.

Manufacturer: Unk, although the gas lamp carries the name "THORNCLIFFE IRON WORKS SHEFFIELD".

wigton, 2023 Also in Wigton, Cumbs, this pump, seemingly originating from the Irish Republic but travelling via Whitehaven, has had a very smart renovation job. Thanks to Richard Wilson for the photos.

Markings: "JOHN COLLINS LTD SHOP STREET DROGHEDA"

Manufacturer: Unk, but supplied by John Collins of Drogheda.
