Aghagallon (click on photographs to bring up bigger/better versions).

[Thanks to Marcus Simms for the photos.]

aghagallon A nicely-preserved pump at Aghagallon, Co. Antrim. The borehole is reported to be 200ft deep, but my understanding of the design of this type of pump is that it can't cope with water levels below about 25ft - so the most likely explanation is that the pump sits atop an aquifer.

Markings: Lion and "Made in England"

Manufacturer: It's a Joseph Evans "York" Cottage Pump.

aghagallon, 2016 Also at Aghagallon, Co. Antrim.

Markings: Flag, an indecipherable roundel and a "3".

Manufacturer: Lee Howl.
