aghagallon A nicely-preserved pump at Aghagallon, Co. Antrim. Thanks to Marcus Simms for the photo. The borehole is reported to be 200ft deep, but my understanding of the design of this type of pump is that it can't cope with water levels below about 25ft - so the most likely explanation is that the pump sits atop an aquifer.

Markings: Lion and "Made in England"

derrachrin Derrachrin, Co. Antrim. Thanks to Marcus Simms for the photo. Just above ground level it has an access door, which suggests that the plunger with its bucket and clack valve is wholly contained within the pump top.

A semi-rotary, somewhere along the road between Derrykeighan and Castlecat, Co. Antrim.

Markings: Can't quite make them out - possibly "Runwell", "No. 3" and "British Made".

Manufacturer: Runwell pumps are made by Ashwell & Nesbit of Leicester.
