St. Bernard's Well, Edinburgh. The curative waters had been taken here from the 1760s, and in 1789 Lord Gardenstone commissioned the artist Alexander Nasmyth to design the circular temple building that is still there today. The well and grounds were restored in 1885-87 (the pump probably dates from this time), but the well was closed in 1940 and these days it's only opened on certain dates. Thanks to Bill and Helen Welsh for the photos.

Markings: BIBENDO VALEBIS ("By drinking you will be well") carved in the stone, but no decipherable marks on the pump itself.

Manufacturer: Unk.
