Could this be why the pump isn't set symmetrically in its alcove - to provide optimum space for the person using the pump? It featured on the Crossgar Women's Institute's golden anniversary mugs in 1998.

Markings: A "1" stamped on the end of the axle/crankshaft.

Markings: The panel at the base reads "W. WILLIS, DUBLIN ROAD BELFAST" and is followed by "1900". There are further markings further down at the back, hard to make out but including an "& Co".
